My buddy picked up a '69 Chevelle about 20 years back that had a power box but nothing was hooked up or plugged. It worked as if it was all hooked up & he drove it as that for about 5 years.Would a factory power steering box survive without a pump attached if you just hooked a loop line between the two fittings with a little fluid to keep things wet?

Only real issue I'd see in an adapted setup is a lack of road feel. Kinda why I never wired in the magna steer on my dd
I meant running it at a constant level of assist without the PCM controlling itMy '13 5.0 is electric steering and there is great road feel. the electric assist is just provides assist to the rack. The mechnical attachment is still there to provide feedback.
On the Vue setup, it appears to use a large electric motor on the steering column to drive a manual steering box. I can't think of a good manual GM box I would want to power and the unpowered 12:1 power Box would pretty hard on the motor.
Here is thread with details for a vintage mustang install
