I finally got to bring the Vortec home!! As a Valentine's day gift my fiance paid for the engine. I brought it home last night. It'll still be a little while before I can get the parts for it and put it in the car but at least it's officially mine now.

You can run Blue LS2 valve springs #12625033 and Comp Cams #787-16 retainers and get away with .570 lift easily with stock seals and no machine work. I have done it on 062 and 906 heads. I measured the last eight heads we did, they were in the .580 range. The LT4 Hot Cam is .492 with stock rocker arms and .525 with 1.6 rockers.

Really?!? The LS2 valve springs solve the valve seal clearance problem? Without machining? I have a stock block and Vortec heads, and I can use this formula without any machine work? I thought I was limited to 0.475 lift, but that's with the stock Vortec springs, I guess.

Wow. Sometimes procrastination pays, big time!

I already did. Lol. I bought her an engagement ring for part of her Christmas in 2015. We're gonna get married when we get a house. We're trying to get the paper work sorted out for that now.

I looked up 12625033, and it is an individual spring. If I can trust a post on EBay, 16 of these cross over to 12299224. Under this part number, Amazon suggests your retainers, Comp Cams #787-16. [Do you reuse the stock Vortec locks?] Amazon also suggests Competition Cams 648-16 Machined Steel Race locks. These three items are $155 together. Finally, Summit sells the LT4 Hot Cam, 24502586, for $256. You can buy the whole kit with 1.6 roller rockers, 12480002 for $733, just find a home for the springs. The Summit customer feedback gives another hint: "I have a lt1 5.7l vortec in a 99 Tahoe with a hot CAM. Used 7.4 inch pushrods.i lined up the centerline of the rocker pin and roller pin at 90° to the intake valve stem minus half the lift plus the thickness of the head gasket to give me 90 degree valvetrain geometry at half lift."
