Been a while working on the wagon. Finally got the body work finished and some paint on the car. Had to replace some of the front roof metal, make patch panels for the upper rear corners, make patch panels for the lower rear corners of back side glass area, convert rear doors from a 4 sedan to rear wagon doors. Now reassemble to outside and then start on the interior. Coming along though.

Painted, sanded, buffed, and waxed. Now the hard part. Remembering how it goes back together.

Wow!! The car looks great, Ed.
What a familiar sight...:)
Love the two tone...very nice. The best part is putting everything back in it's prospective order.
Thanks for sharing your pics with us. Keep us updated.

Btw, how many Bugs are in your current arsenal?

Awesome! The only thing I can do with paint is rattle a can or wish it was happening for real. Now is what I call the easy part - putting the jigsaw puzzle back together. Moving blankets at Harbor Freight are cheap insurance you don't scratch the awesomeness...

They make a more-door skirt package?!

Cool!

I skinned a few doors in my days. I'm always up for a challenge so converting the doors was more fun than skinning plus my doors were really bad. And the replacement doors only cost me $15. each for all four. Thanks for all the good comments. Longroof, I appreciate all your help. And I have 4 bugs in my collection. A 57 sunroof oval window I've had for 40 years. Has 39k miles on it, a 1953 split window that I've had for 20 years. I'm in the process of redoing now, next is a 1966 that I've had forb12 years. I use to race it occasionally at the local track during
"air cooled race day". No time slip but ran 70mph in the 1/8 mile, and I just bought a 1 owner 1974 totally unmolested bug. Going to restore for the wife. She was driving a yellow bug when we meet 37 years ago. Look up "SE bugs" on the net. Going to do this one as the yellow "Fun Bug" Only thing I'm short of is time.

I assume the work involved in converting the rear door window frames was a bit time consuming...but worth it, never the less. Besides, your chances of finding decent 4-dr doors are a lot better than finding good wagon doors.

I recall you mentioning the '53 split window....and I think the '57 oval window. The prices of old bugs have been off the chart. I was considering finding a pre-'69 type III squareback. I owned a '68. Even the prices of those things have escalated bigtime. However, not as bad as early Type II's. My last VW was a '72 Type II bus. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for old aircooled Vdubs.
