A 30 year old original GN system would not be a good choice for anything

As far as function, fit, ease of installation and looks go, the Walker system IS the original GN system AFAIC and I would say it would be a fine choice for a very mild car that you want to keep looking stock. All parts needed are cheap as hell too.

With that said he's still open to other choices. Just would like something better than a stock single exhaust....

Here is the Scenario: Rich Guy pays $40K for a 500 mile '87 GN that a guy who didn't get the point of a GN kept in his living room for 30 years. Rich guy heard tails of low 12 second quarter miles but takes his NOS GN out on the street and gets is rich*** beat by a Prius when the fuel pump gives up and the car starts bucking at 16 psi of boost.

He drops the tank and swaps in a new 340LPH pump and replaces all of the fuel hoses that are leaking high pressure gas everywhere, hits the street again and this time a Camry cleans his clock.

His Friends who all owned GN's 20 years ago (when he owned a sensible civic) tell him "you know the exhaust sucks, don't you? It is good for NOTHING". So he cuts it off and puts on a 2.5" mandel bent duals and puts the 500 mile exhaust on Ebay for $1,500 because another idiot rich guy is going to thinks he "needs it" on HIS trailer queen GN (again, completely missing the point of the GN).

At least the first Rich guy is slowly getting the point of a GN, and that is good.

You get what you pay for. If the car has less than 250HP it should be fine. Most good muffler shops with a Computerized pipe bender can duplicate the pipes in 2.5" and it will flow a lot more and that muffler is a "quiet flow" which will suck power. Swapping it with a X ultraflow would sound meaner and not choke the motor, but you still got non mandrel bent 2" ID pipe so 300-350 HP max is about all she'll do before the exhaust puts a major choke on it. LS1 swaps need not apply.

I'm all over that eBay GN original exhaust! If it didn't have a dent in the muffler i would offer $2500 for it!

Hmmm, perhaps my buddy may stick with the Walker factory replacement parts for $270 total....

Yes, I can't stand those rich guys who need every single part to be 100% original. They just drive up the price for everybody else.

I wondered where the inferior than stock style y pipes in cheap exhaust kits for Monte Carlos came from. Buick did a lot of weird stuff back then, the base n/a V6s used a transverse muffler like that, must have been a Buick thing. Plus all Regals except GNXs have missing body bushings and lack many of the bracing the other G bodies came with.
