The 2004r is a great transmission why are you not using it?

You can use it but it will take a little bit of fitting.

I think B&M use to make a kit that relocated the mount.

If you can't find that then you will need a x-member from a G-Body that came with a TH350 in it.

Bolt it in to the passenger side and mark the holes for the drivers side. drill the chassis and make a spacer to keep the x-member level.

I think some cars that came with the 200r4 have both mounting locations on the drivers side you have to get under there and look.

The chassis mount locations and the x-members are different on the drivers side on cars that came with 2004r's than the cars that came with the TH350.

I can't speak for all G Bodies but I know my '86 Monte Carlo has both mounting locations. The front set of holes will fit the TH350, the rear set fits the 200-4R. I'm pretty sure the later model cars all have both locations.

so why would the used one that i bought be different lengths the used one came out of a g body with a th350 which is what i will have but they are shorter

they may have had a different rear end that required a shorter shaft or they cheated with a shorter wheel base so the car turns better.....

We move out engines back on our dirt cars so that would mean the driveshaft has to be shorter.
My 85 Monte Carlo SS has both mounting locations. It came with the th200r4 but I had a th350 so that's what I put in it.

We were not permitted to move the engine back in our metric circle track cars. Moving the engine back must have helped you with the terrible weight bias in the metric car. The track official would look at the position of the fuel pump which was an easy indicator if the engine was moved back..

Sounds to me like the new driveshaft out of the race car is from an 8.5 rearend and he has a 7.5 rearend in the car...trans should be a non issue.
