Hey Guys ... I am looking to put the stock exhaust manifolds back on my 79 El Camino. I live in CA, and my smog guy told me the headers are a no-no. ( I got the car with mid length headers). My questions are ..Is the stock ones 2 or 3 bolt ? ( exhaust flange outlet). Also.. does anyone know if there are supposed to be A.I.R. tubes on them. Been trying to research which ones are right ,but both styles come up.

Stock was 2 bolt & should have the A.I.R. tube for the Cali emissions. Are you going total stock on the exhaust or true duels? If you're going to have someone bend new pipes you could even use ealier ones with A.I.R. ports.

My plan was it use Monte SS style Catback. I was planning on having a shop make a new head pipe connected to a cat. i would have preferred to use the 3 bolt style because of the way my plug wires are routed. I have 2 1/2 inch duals on it now. I thought about using a cat on each side, but dont know if I have sufficient clearance on the driver side. Looks like I`ll need to figure out how the A.I.R. works as well

Stock Malibu manifolds have two bolts on the ends, and air injection tubes. I have a pair I am not using if you can't find them locally. You can get a replacement Y-pipe from Walker. I also have a new-in-box 3" aftermarket monolithic catalytic converter I will not be using, but it will need some flanges welded on to bolt onto the remainder of the system. In addition to the manifolds, you will need the thermostatic valve that goes on the end of the passenger manifold air injection pump, thermal-vacuum sensors, EGR, and fuel vapor canister. OPGI sells reproduction fan shroud stickers for 1979 cars. I am not sure what exactly is different for California emissions than the 49-state version.

OK, thought you were refering to the 3 bolt like the original 2 bolt manifold. I ran true duals with cats using a double hump crossmember. Going with older 3 bolt manifolds just fins an A.I.R. set, either have a Y pipe or down pipes bent for the the cats.

The three-bolt manifolds came in trucks and bigger cars. Depends upon how hard-core the emissions referee will be.

I definitely would have to hope I can run the 3 bolt manifold. with dual cats .... have to wait and see. Damn CA and their smog laws

Good luck in your search. So glad I don't live in Cali, or any area that requires factory emission BS on older cars. All we even really have to have is a cat, but no one follows it. There are no inspections, sniffer tests, nothing.
Just can't be obnoxiously loud (unless you happen to have two wheels. -_- t ) and don't do your best Bo Duke impression in front of the cops. Good luck to ya.

If the car came with a single cat I doubt they will let 2 cats go
