So I had the idea (I'm sure someone else has already done it) to 3D print the dash bezel for the HVAC and radio controls in my Buick. Like everyone else I have a single DIN after market deck in the car and then you're left with a gaping hole, or a terrible looking plastic filler in hole. So why not take advantage of some of today's technology and have one of these 3D printed to make it look good with and aftermarket deck. So I got bored at work last week, created the 3D model, then brought it over to the new 3D printing cafe in town...It reminds me of an internet cafe in the 90's. Except with a row of 3D printers humming away making STUFF! I'm thinking ill have a trial one made to see how it goes. Once the finer details are sorted I would be happy to share the model, or have some made for anyone who is interested. Let me know what you think.

I'd like to see a redesigned/printed cluster for aftermarket gauges that does not look like a cheesy blow-mold or flat panel.

That was going to be my next project in this dpeartment. I have a digital dash in my Regal and as cool as that is I think it will be tough to make that speedo work with LS swap and 4L60 (without getting one of those super expensive mechanical speedo outputs). Making models is free, so maybe when I'm hurting for a project and don't have money ill make one up!

That would be awesome if you or someone started to make parts like these for G-Bodys.

But would the plastic that those printers use stand up to the summer heat?

Closed windows hot summer day and a melted dash?

My kid got certified for autocad in High school so I wanted him to model my revised end pieces for LT1 MAF so it fits inside a stock GN airbox so I could 3-D print them (instead of filling them out of Aluminum), but he is too busy DJing or playing computer games.

I have been avoiding getting a UG computer at work and taking the training (work will pay for it), but It's getting to the point where I could make extra retirement income with the skill, and that is not too far off.

Its ABS so it can take heat. We have parts 3D printed out of metal at work.

Nice, I had no idea what type of plastic they used.

I know they were making AR receivers with those printers but they had a short life span with the heat.

The guys I was talking to about the printing have every material from that crappy brittle plastic that was used in the beginning to ABS, vinyl and some rubber. They also have (or claim) the largest 3D printer in North America. So i'm hoping they know their stuff! When I get one done ill let you all know how it turns out.
