Went by the local GM dealership the other day. The LaCrosse is now the full-size for Buick. Maybe I wouldn't hate the new Buick's so much if they made an effort to give them names that make sense, unlike Cascada, Encore, LaCrosse, Lucerne, etc.

I wonder if the Buicks will start getting Chinese names soon. I read that some will be made there and imported here, and that the Chinese market is beginning to dominate Buick sales. Not sure how Cadillac missed the cultural boat...

It's amazing, when you park them side by side, that the late model cars are just as big as the Roadmaster. I saw a recent post with picture of an '85 Cutlass parked between a late model Mustang and Camaro at a car show. The Cutlass looked so small....

I like that they have there own names no Mather how weird they are. Because the new cars today have nothing in common with the name sakes they have. Ex. The Monte carlo, the malibu, the caprice, the impala!

Wasn't the Chinese love affair with Buick one of the reasons GM killed off Pontiac? Keep the brand with no cars, style, or real market. Kill the brand alot of new cars, most of GM sports type cars, & a better market.

The late model Pontiacs (imported & rebadged Holdens), weren't selling nearly as well as the Buicks in China. Most diehard American car guys were displeased with the aesthetic appeal of late model Pontiacs, especially the '04-'06 GTO. In retrospect, American car guys now get how truly impressive those cars are performance-wise, but it's too late now. Holden is also shutting down its Australian hit factory at the end of this year.

The Chinese love for Buicks makes more sense when you remember the Americans didn't rape Nanking and treat the Chinese like slaves for over 10 years. Harder for them to buy a Nissan or Toyota then us. A Chinese friends family back in the 1970s only had American cars (American Motors cars.. they said "American" right on them). When My friend bought a Honda Civic in the 1980's his dad took it hard, but got over it.

There is still a lot of pent up hostility between Chinese and Japan. The Japanese have mostly let it all go, but many Chinese find it hard to let go and they'll drive a Buick before they drive a Honda.
