Hello all, i have a friend selling his front sway bar off his 87 Grand National. My question is, is it any different/bigger than my stock front sway bar on my 78 Malibu wagon? Thanks for the help.

GNs got the thicker F41 bar. Should be much larger then your wagon bar..

GN's did get the F41 suspension package but I think the F41 was offered as an option on all G bodies so he may have it on his wagon. Then again a previous owner may have upgraded or downgraded....

I'm pretty sure it is a 32mm solid bar.

It is in fact a 32mm, or 1 1/4" bar. Your wagon might have a 32mm bar if it has the F41 suspension package...very likely...but not definite.

How would one find out if i have the F41 suspension package? Its a 78 Malibu Classic that originally came with a 305 2bbl. I assume F41 is an RPO code?

Your wagon would have an 1 1/4" front sway bar, a 7/8' rear sway bar, inner fender braces, and probably jounce bars. I it doesn't, I do have these parts available..timo22

If you could find the build sheet for it, that would be one way. You could start by measuring the front bar with a vernier caliper, adjustable wrench. I believe the F41 package would have a rear swaybar as well. Cars equipped with a tow package would usually have the F41 package.

Try lifting up your rear seat. That's where I initially found mine. If it's not there, it could be above your headliner board.

Its not above the headliner board on my car, i took the headliner out yesterday and nothing. Might check under the rear seat. Ill have to also check later to see if i have a rear sway bar or not.

It for sure doesn't have inner fender braces. I might have to check under it tonight and see if it has jounce bars or not.
