what I am taking about is you can't change the engine from any other car and you can't change the transmission etc, with the new cars you end up with the same car anyone else can have. I am not talking about having the fastest car or the best handling car. I don't find it satisfying in pulling out the laptop to upgrade a program on the car as I do with making a cam upgrade.

Um... go over to SpeedHunters.com and tell me that hotrodding isn't alive and well with late-model cars. There is some serious crossbreeding between all makes and models going on these days. If you feel limited that is because you have chosen to be. For all intents and purposes I could have swapped a 2JZ into our wagon just as easily as the LS1 - I just happened to own an LS1.

After any cam swap you still have to tune the car regardless if it has a computer or not. I find greater satisfaction in blowing the minds of old farts and techno-peasants at car shows and the race track when they learn that I built and tuned my own late-model performance car/truck.

The rules of hotrodding haven't changed.

If those cars existed, drag racing my be rejuvenated.

I say give me an angular body, call it a Malibu, I want a trunk, V8 rear drive, and a solid rear axle. Give me standard or automatic, optional trans brake. Optional displacement and super chargers.

Am I alone?

You are not alone and you have an uncanny knack of hitting the nail right on the head.

Great stuff in here. Man I wish I had 100k. It's like being back in the 60s again, but everything is 10 times more expensive.

If I had a $100k to spend on a car, Dodge wouldn't even be within a country mile of the list. You are right on the money with things being so expensive, such an entry barrier to younger folks who are interested in cars. No wonder millennials don't drive, speaking as a borderline millennial myself.

Don't know if Ford, GM would make that list.

The Torino's where awesome on the track!!!

The '68-69's Torino's/Taledega's and Cyclone spoilers/Spoiler II's were awesome, but the Back glass on the '70-71 Torino was an aerodynamic disaster on the Superspeedways. The back of the car created Lift and If Daytona/Superbird wings were added to fix it, that would mean 5.0L max instead of 7.0L, so the '70-71 Torinos never did all that well on the superspeedways and the redesign coke bottle fastback Torino came out in '72 to get Ford back into NASCAR.

I have seen 2 of the 3 King Cobras built, back in the 1990's. One had a Boss 429, the other a SCJ. I think they wanted $100K back then. The back glass lift was still an issue so the car wasn't worth making.

I've historically been a GM guy [and not just because those are my initials . . .] but I always thought the Ford 390 was an amazingly strong engine. My cousin had a 69 Torino, 390, Holley, 4 speed, I want to say 3.89 gears and that thing was just badass. I remember a guy that daddy bought a Mach 1 428 dual quad would sit there and shake idling . . . Jim blew his doors off. I think he ran high 12s with that car which back then was a VERY fast street rod.

Back on topic, though I do respect modern cars that perform quite well and get great fuel mileage too . . . I can't see buying one.

I will be perfectly happy driving my 442 again with some modern goodies to [hopefully] make it turn and stop as well as it now goes . . . when that actually happens. Dare I say "pretty soon" . . . again? Almost? Damn near?

Heading out to do the night shift again here in a few . . .
