So I have an 81 MC 3.8L 229, I installed headers with x pipe to dual exhaust and also am going to install Edelbrock performer series Intake/carb which are non-egr. So obviously I would have to delete the smog components and ECM right? Do I have to delete the charcoal canister? And since I'm deleting the ECM what do I need to do with my distributor?

You need romeve all wiring and ecm, about your distributor you need to replace your non vaccum advance distributor to a real nasty HEI distributor with vacuum advance :) if you can read in spanish maybe I can explain best.

Deleting the emission systems usually makes the car run worse, not better. The ecm also controls lockup in the transmission.

If I remember from mine (was a 229 car) the distributor has a vacuum advance. But it has been 20 years since I seen that engine.
