If you guys have read my budget Monte SS build thread, my wifes work is shutting down. Today, I get called in the office at my work to find out that my boss sold the business. They signed papers today. New owner will be there in the morning. Guess I'll find out my fate then. Don't know what I did to deserve this crap with both our jobs screwed. Not really worried about it right now either. I'll find a shop that can use me or I may open one of my own. If anyone wants some custom work or mechanic work done on their G Bodys, shoot me a PM

Damn man, that sucks to hear of the double whammy! I hope it all works out in the long run. With you're skills, I'm sure there is a place that would love to have you!
Or, as you mentioned, if its feasible to open a shop then go for it! All of us are rooting for a positive outcome buddy!

You and Clutch should start up a restoration shop. He's looking for an escape route from NJ.

I know it sounds a little cheesy but,try not to see it as a door closing, but rather one opening. Your skill set has great value anywhere. The secret would be in marketing yourself. Good luck in what comes next for both you and the Mrs.

Just had a few hours but made it count. I got the head bolt holes and accessory holes thread cleaned. I got the block on the engine stand and ready for assembly. My bearings should be here Monday. I removed the remaining insulation from the roof. Most of it was already gone. Used my respirator and safety glasses cause I think that crap has asbestos in it. I then used my nylon cup brush on a buffer and cleaned the underside of the roof. I taped it off and sprayed it flat black. Then I found out that using Dynamat must be an art form that I don't possess  It's good enough and should do its job.

Does the Dynamat add significant weight or it is nominal? Do the pros outweigh the cons? Literally?

Also that might be the most gorgeous build ever.

The dynamat is a bit heavier than the stock brown stuff but from a quieter stand point, I'll take it. I'm thinking in a heavy rain storm, it will probably not be as loud. Also the heat from the sun. I have built a bunch of cars but this is my first Dynamat work. I do plan on doing it to my 55 too. Thanks for the compliment too

So our pow wow at work this morning went OK. The 3 techs (me included) are not getting let go. BUT, the new owner is 25 years old and has a lot to learn quick. He asked me if I'd be interested in building hot rods. I told him not for the money I'm making. I'm going to stay there for the time being but I am going to check on two shops up for rent/lease tomorrow. Also found out about a street rod shop in Tulsa so I'm going to enquire about work. I enjoy working on vehicles and that's what I want to do

Might be worth it if the new owner is open to some consultation. Steer the direction of the shop or diversify?

I worked on my front seats most of the day. I had to strip 4 seats to get 2 super nice set of seat foams. I blasted the pans, brackets, and sliders. Painted everything but only assembled one seat. The vinyl/plastic paint does not match the seat upholstery at all but I can live with it. Its got wrinkles but some good heat from the sun and it will be fine. The chrome side covers are brand new lowers and nice used uppers. I used large body door edge moulding that I found at Pep Boys for the trim around the back and two small pieces on the lowers. Pretty comfy too
