I'm considering building a teardrop trailer to be pulled by my wagon. I'm wondering if i should go with a class II or class III hitch. I guess weight is big factor in my choice.

Thanks guys!

I had a crappy bumper hitch on the car before. I was able to tow a few smaller cars with it. I'm guessing either (class II or III) should be an improvement.
It also does add additional bracing to the rear frame rails.

I have a class I on my GP, when I was looking this was the only one I could find that fit a G body. I did upgrade the bolts to install it but I don't trust it to tow much more than a small trailer however I had to tow a pop up trailer and had no problem with that. For a class II or III I think you might have to fabricate one or modify one to make it to fit.

and you'll have to create a build thread for your trailer...:)

Jack,

I did a little looking online and I don't find any hitches out there for a Malibu wagon. Odd. You may have to fab one yourself.

Thanks Steve,
I knew that Curt made a hitch for our cars...and one that U-haul used to sell. I think U-haul may have done away with theirs, but I think Curt still makes them.
Awhile back, there was a thread about trailer hitches, Quinn had fabricated a nice heavy duty piece.
If i ever do get around to building the teardrop, I will post a build thread about it.

Jared,
It would be the same type of hitch for an El Camino, or any other G-body car for that matter.
Fabbing one might end up being a consideration. Thanks man.

You have to build the trailer, then they'll make a spinoff to The House that Jack Built and call it The Trailer that Jack Built...:p

curt 12005 is what I pull up via the interwebs. Looks just like the one we pulled off a friends elco more than a few years back but his was a class 3. The class 1 hitches I recall would only mount to the bottom 2 bumper mounts, and the class 2 units had an additional mount further up the frame on each side. I dont see why the elco hitch would not work with the wagon
