I want to eliminate the lights from my bumper and put them in the tailgate . Has anyone else done this ? What taillights would require minimal internal space ? On an episode of Overhaulin ,Chip used 60s Camaro , I only like the 69 RallySport ones , but $$$$ . Any other other suggestions ?

I'll post pics later but I used the long skinny trailer LED's and mounted them at the top of the tailgate so they shine through the back glass

I'd like to see what you've done. I once thought about using thinner taillights at the edge of the quarter panels, but there's no real room to work with...not like an El Camino where those areas are wider and can accommodate wider taillights.

Doug,
I have seen that episode of Overhaulin' and can't say I care for the Camaro taillights in the tailgate. It just doesn't look right... I realize there's not many choices regarding taillights.
I believe one of our fellow members used the thin Caddy taillights in his bumper. He never showed what they look like, though.

I'd love to see other variations of taillights used. The taillights in the bumpers were not the greatest idea. First of all, they're too low and you always get idiots tailgating you.

I'm just in the planning stage so far . An Elky could probably use the skinny Cad. taillights in the 1/4s or even the 88-98 Silverado lights .Thats kinda funny because the Cad lights were a common swap on those trucks .

You're absolutely right about the Cad taillights being popular and used on everything. They are quite attractive. I have seen the Silverado taillights on El Caminos and they look at home on those cars.

I remember an article in Hot Rod back in the early '90's using the '88-'98 C/K taillights. They look really good like they are ment for El Caminos.
