Well I won't start a build thread because it'll drag too long before i even start putting the motor. It I got motor washed up, I even couldn't resist taking the truck intake off and test fitting the ls3 intake.

Spray it down with muratic acid to get rust to melt off. Then use a high temp primer and paint.

Or make a huge mess with a wire wheel.

I'd be real careful what you get muriatic acid on with respect to plastic or sensors, like the knock sensors down on the side of the block. I would wire brush it. Wipe it down with lacquer thinner, tape it up, prime it and paint it. If you use the Duplicolor Engine Enamel, don't spray in high humidity. It has a tendency to blush, especially the gloss black. Ask me or Scott how we know.

i dont know much about ls. read an article about a few people sandblasting valve cover to paint or powdercoat n then sand gets trapped n pcv system and can destroy motor putting sand into oil. just figured id add that in

That's with about any engine though. I've seen regular ole small blocks get machined, but not cleaned up enough. Next thing you know the motor has a few hours of run time and ruined bearings!

The pcv setup on the underside of the LS valve cover can be removed to avoid the issue of particulates from getting trapped, and ultimately destroying an engine.

I started with a low mileage engine that had minimal corrosion. Since it is all aluminum I used a wire wheel and scotch bright on sealing surfaces then painted it with aluminum header paint for a uniform look. Raw aluminum absorbs grease and dirt like a sponge and is difficult to clean so even the parts I sandblasted got paint. As noted above, I blasted my valve covers and painted them semi gloss black to match the intake. Do it right and there are no worries of sand getting in your motor.

I thought it was understood to remove stuff and go slow? LOL.

The acid will be fine on plastics (it is stored in a plastic jug, and used in pools all the time ;)) - however, it is aluminum that gets a beating if it is left on there:
