David,
I don't blame you for possibly going that route. It will help keep the original structural integrity.
You could then dissect the A-pillars and use the pieces to repair your pillars.
Replacing the skin will also take care of the rust above the rear window.
Is there rust in the lower rear window channel where the pine straw and dirt is laying?
Mr Jack
That is exactly what I was thinking. Keeping it together. The front roof brace is rough so I will replace it. Just some spot welds holding it. Not sure how back brace looks yet but will do the same if necessary. The middle braces are just lightly rusty and I can treat those once I remove skin. The skin is what's terrible. As far as lower back window channel, it appears to be solid. We had to take a break. Hot out there. Will get back at it a little this afternoon and get out back glass and see for sure. Thanks mr Jack

David,
It's almost the same method applied as you were going to do the forward section of the roof...only this time you'll be removing and replacing the rest of the roof panel.
Good luck and stay hydrated out there.

David & Justin, i thought i would share a couple inspirational pics. My 87 cutlass had vinyl and upon removing it the sight underneath was ugly. After much consideration, my bodyguy recommended locating a good skin. I found a donor, we chopped the roof, and went to town after measuring like crazy!

For a couple days i had a super moon roof cutlass....

But after careful welding, minimal body filler, and alot of sanding it now looks like this. Nobody will ever know we replaced the skin....

Well got back glass out without a hitch. Good bit of sealer but not to bad. Accidentally broke wire to rear window defogger. Dang. Son and I blew out window channels. Got most of the old sealer off with putty knife. Not too bad on lower rear channel. Was pleasantly surprised. Of course we have got to take wire wheel to it to really see, but looks ok. The top at roof skin...rough. Expected that though. Thunderstorm coming up so had to stop for today.
