You would be better off with a used LS2/LS6 cam... if you do stick with the LS9 cam be prepared to set your shift points rather high. Beehive springs will work, but don't assume that the LS9 springs are sufficient because those engines had lighter valvetrain components.
We will see what happens. I personally have no problem running the LS9 camshaft but girlfriend wants a lope like it's got now. LOL

While overlap helps, you can make lope with tuning.

More on overlap, or the complete lack of it in the LS9 cam's case (-25°).

You are going to find that the cam kills low end power because it is bleeding off cylinder pressure. I used the drop in static and dynamic compression to my advantage in our Procharged LS2; going from 10.9 to 10.7 static (final DCR escapes me at this time). Plus I had to wind it out to 6700 to get the most power.

You don't have a lot of compression to play with in the 5.3L. The LS6 is only marginally better at -23° but has a more suitable powerband. Honestly any mild bargain LS cam from Summit/Trickflow or Jegs is going to payoff far better. 0-8° of overlap is going to be the sweet spot.
