in your opinion what should a no egr'ed engine run at with vac advance?i thought 51 was on the conservative side but can certainly lower it if its gonna hurt my engine.as for the starter it could be not disengaging but i still bet its just too long of a pinion,i mention this because there was a friend i had who also had a friend who had the starter where it wouldnt disengage.i got under it to watch the motion of the pinion gear and sure enough it was just slightly too long and was catching on about...1/16th too far inward not away or so give or take so we just took the starter apart and ground that amount off the pinion gear and no more catching, engaged properly and disengaged when the key was released but the only way to really know is to crawl under there and see what its actually doing, why its catching.theoretically its a very simple circuit with not much of a variance for working or not working so a solenoid sticking in the out position and not retracting is attribute personally to mechanical clearances and not so much to electronic mishap
