I am looking at rebuilding one, if not both of these transmissions. I plan on getting 2004R parts and the assembly manual from CK Performance. I have many goodies already inside the 2004R. I will definitely upgrade the sunshell and go from a 13 vane to a 10 vane pump. I am thinking of the high performance rebuild in a box for the TH350. It comes with Alto Red Eagle Clutches and Kolene Steels. Also comes with the hardened sprag race and new roller clutches for around $350. The biggest question is a decent TH350 2200 to 2500 stall converter that doesn't slip much more than stock on the top end for a reasonable price. I am already running remote trans coolers on both. Any input or suggestions is welcome.

Your convertor is just one part of your complete set-up. The camshaft, carb, intake, and rear end, along with you convertor all have to be matched up to complement each other. A transmission holding fixture is worth the money. Google - GM Turbo 350 Rebuild: Tools & Equipment Guide - you probably already have to majority of the tools needed and can make some of them. Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 Handbook by Ron Sessions is a great book for building and modifying

Thanks. I think keeping the 2004R is the way to go. I will toss the TH350 in the corner, if my 88 doesn't sell, it will get a junkyard 2004R. I will be getting the CK Performance 200 page 2004R manual. Their big heavy duty rebuild kit with the upgraded sunshell, stator, billet forward drum, big billet servo, shift kit, billet pump rotor kit and 2200-2500 stall heavy duty torque converter. I already have the Hughes deep aluminum pan and early 4L60E bottom feed filter. I also have the speedo within 2 mph, pinned the governor and have it shifting just under 5000 rpm, just need to shave a tiny bit more. I will build it right, measure everything, even if it takes all winter. If all goes well, the 3.90 posi swap for the 8.5" Type O rear will be next.

Spring press or compresser tool. Special skinny snap ring pliers. There is a special tool for the output shaft bushing in the case.
Pump puller makes things much easier of you have to stack it a couple times juggling the selective washers for end-play tolerance.

They make a seal wizard tool that will also make life more enjoyable.

I built a fixture that sets in an engine stand base.

I have the gauges, bought them to figure out why my shifts were on the soft side. I had to up the boost valve to the .555" to get that 215-220 psi compared to 185 psi in the forward gears. Thanks on the other suggestions.
