and from your second link for those who think Quadrajets don't have what it takes this shows they can be tweaked if you take time to educate yourself...

"
Tip 4: Carb Contemplation

Patrick’s Bird had to run a Q-jet, but for 2004 it flowed 800 cfm instead of 750 and is internally modified. Aside from jets and metering rods, Patrick says, “The needle-and-seat is the large one, and I adjusted pressure on the electric fuel pump until it flooded and backed it off a half turn. Now it’s set to 7 pounds–everyone says the carb should flood, but it doesn’t.” The carb shown is from Cliff’s Q-Jets, which is even more trick for the ’05 season."

Sweet. Your modern fuel injected v8 is faster than 50 year old cars on bias plys. :p .

Oops. That comment slipped out after those 5 glasses of wine at the hotel last night.:D Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers... The initial post was really about the big bad hemi losing......You know how much I like Dodges.

If I'm not mistaken this was pure stock racing from Mid Michigan Motorplex - rules are pretty tight

You are probably right, however I believe that video is pretty old... the FAST stuff got really fast in recent years. I used to love picking up Muscle Car Review and seeing the potential the muscle cars had. I think I even have a copy of HOTROD's "Super Tuning" book from the 60s/70s kicking around. Nothing beats a well optimized combination.

Let's be honest here: these cars aren't stock (meaning they are not as-built by the factory). Neither one of these cars are running stock engines. The FAST rules even tell you this. From their own web site:

You see, F.A.S.T. cars may look and sound stock, but internal engine modifications are not restricted.

Anyone who understands time slips can see the Road Runner has a better power-to-weight ratio than that Olds. The trap speeds make that very clear. That the Olds ran a tenth quicker simply means it got off the line a little better than the Plymouth (which was painfully obvious from that angle of the video.)

Does it sound like I'm defending the Mopar? I'm sure it does. I'll freely admit there are damn few vehicles on the planet I would rather have than a 1970 Plymouth 2dr B-Body with an N96 hood... and of those very few cars I'd rather have, none of them wear Oldsmobile badges.

I think an '86-87 Turbo Regal could run 11.7's In "pure stock" trim (Not that they would ever allow it to compete), but getting it to launch with 215/65's would be tricky and over 1/2 the time it would blow the tires off. With real tires, breaking out of the 11.50 max would be no problem

This is my T-type when it was stock (in the late 1990s). Motor is 90K mile untouched (not "blueprinted"), Stock injectors, stock turbo, stock intercooler with radial tires, stock shocks (not 90/10's like that 442), hooked up front sway bar, driving 100 miles 1 way to the track, racing, driving back (getting 24 mpg)

12.20's with only a crappy 1.8 60ft:

Why Turbo Regals aren't $50 - $100K, I'll never know.

I know if I ever do the Turbo Buick thing again it is going to be an optimized stock version.
