Yeah, when I was looking for just bulk black/red 1/0 battery cable for my front to rear move, I went in to Oreilly's and asked if they had any, the kid looked dumbfounded, then said "oh, jumper cables are on aisle 4." NO! Bulk 1/0 AWG battery cable. He goes back behind and starts pulling all these spools of like 16-18-20AWG speaker wire down, looking at them. I said, that ain't it. He comes back up and asks "what year is it?" I walked out. It is sad but this commercial where the kids don't know how to change their tire without their insurance calling a tow truck for them is real . . .
is this a lug wrench? Um, maybe . . .

Bought the cable online . . .
I never thought this thread would be so popular. I just needed to vent a little after a bad day. I am used to the auto parts store in my hometown where I've been going since I was a teenager and some of the same guys still work there. They know me by name and have never let me down. Very knowledgeable people there. If they don't have it they get it , usually the same day. And they never ask dumb questions.

In CT there is an autoparts called levine auto. It reminds me of the old days with the greasy books they stiill have behind the counter which they have referenced to get parts for me. They are knowledgeable and look for interchange parts and ask all the right questions. They are a bit more expensive but you can't beat the expertise they offer.

About a year ago I went into the auto zone near me and when I walked in there were three associates there and one asked me if I needed help. When I told them I needed metering rods for an edelbrock carb they all loooked at eachother and whispered "metering rods for an edelbrock carb?" I said nevemind I'll check in the edelbrock carb parts section. I thought it was funny.

Most don't know carb parts anymore or many parts at all unfortunately and aren't able to give the service they need.

A second time I went there to get a felpro head gasket because I forgot they didn't come in pairs. they ordered one for me and when I go pick it up the next day the guy says here's you gasket. The ring of the head gasket was completely folded over in half. I told him I couldn't use that and he says "really, it should seal" I said give me my $50 bucks back please.

No more. I can see the frustration with all of us with this kind of stuff.

That's the thing right there. I try to buy local as much as the budget allows.

Yesterday, I stopped by my local autoparts store where we are on a first name basis. I needed an air filter for an s-10 Blazer that I just robbed the airbox off of. Chris proceeded to explain the difference between multi-fuel and regular port injection because one is round and one is flat; I needed the flat one. Would have never gotten that at a chain brand. Granted, this local parts store is a Carquest now, but still independently owned.

Hey, nothin' against Oreilly's either because even [what 1,2,3] going on 12 years ago now when I was starting the big block engine build, the Oreilly's on the other side of town still had older knowledgeable people that were very helpful . . . EVEN ON OLDSMOBILE STUFF!

That was rare even by then . . .

But that store is actually closed now and man the one on this side of town and the Autozone across the street [reminds me of McDonalds and Burger King] are both worthless. Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't live clear out in the sticks here.

Drive all the way in there and . . . I said draw mister!

So, I shop online but now I'm looking for an online shopping condom for that [know where I can pick up one or a gross?]. No, poll required, rhetorical question only, but how many have had to change their credit card at least once in the past year cuz that's been hacked?

I need a cute puppy pic . . .

And where's my black and white of Kate . . .

OK, I'm all better now . . .
