My 84 Regal has a stock 3.6 and has no problem starting but it seems to idle at high RPMs. The engine wiring seems like a mess and the thermac plug is missing so if anybody has a pic of it that would be helpful. Other than that the car runs and drives pretty good. Thanks for the help.

If it has a distributor in the front, it's the Buick 3.8. If it has it in the back, it's the chevy 229 (also called a 3.8). The choke could be sticking, or the fast idle (left side [passenger] under choke housing) screw could need adjusted. Take the air cleaner off, with the car stone overnight cold, start it up and watch what it does.

Yeah I meant to put 3.8. My other car has a 3.6. When you first replied I was like why is explaining that to me lol. Adjusting that fast idle screw worked like a champ. Thanks.
