YREKA, Calif. - A Redding FedEx delivery driver was rescued Tuesday morning after he was reported missing Monday when he did not return home from making a delivery in Happy Camp.
Jesse James Flagg, 26, of Redding, was reported missing at about 8:32 p.m. Monday after he was last seen around 3:30 p.m. making a delivery in the Happy Camp area. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office investigated the disappearance and discovered Flagg had not returned home after the delivery in Happy Camp and he did not make at least one other delivery along Highway 96.
Officials said ground and roadway searches were conducted along the Highway 96 corridor but they did not find Flagg. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, CHP, and the U.S. Forest Service then initiated a large-scale search early Tuesday morning.
At about 10:10 a.m., the Siskyou County Sheriff's Office received a report that a helicopter crew, helping with the search, had spotted tire marks on Highway 96. Officials said a USFS unit went to the area and found what appeared to be the missing 2017 Nissan delivery van sitting about 20 feet down a steep embankment between Cave Mountain and China Point.
CHP, the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, and fire rescue responded to the area and Flagg was found at the scene alive and responsive. Officials said Flagg was able to get himself out of the vehicle and then fell or slid down the embankment about 60 feet where he was stranded until he was rescued. Officials added Flagg was treated at the scene and then transported to a Medford hospital by helicopter for further exam and treatment.
If anyone has any information about this incident, please call the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office 24-hour dispatch center at 530-841-2900.
