Well I think I solved my problem to shifter getting stuck it was the arm that's supposed to go into the firewall linkage since it was never connected kept getting stuck on the frame now I don't know if in fact it's supposed to be connected at by firewall since I did connect it and wouldn't budge past reverse or whatnot so able to shift without getting stuck...i hope... I'd like to thank everyone that responded I appreciate the help... Now if I can get some reverse lights working....:)
Reverse lights are connected to the column position switch under the dash, attached to the steering column. Glad you are going again.

It sounds like your best bet would be to return all of the linkage to as stock as possible. This will probably include figuring out why your column linkage isn't giving you the full range of movement.

I think it has to do with my cable from all this time tryingbto shift it and hitting the frame and being blinded messed up cable because as soon as I straighten it out it does go into reverse then I put it in drive it goes and as soon as I go back into reverse it doesn't catch but will catch drive

You can rotate the shifter bowl on the column by hand if the cable is disconnected. The lever at the trans has the rod to the frame and the cable to the shifter. The rod to the frame has the tab for the rod going up to the column. If you unbolt the cable and can shift it fine, you know it's the cable.

I was able to shift without the cable connected so thinking you're right it is the cable.... Anyone out there has one......... Kind of figured that it was cable... Thanks for the advice.. Now I have reverse and no park so guess gonna have to drive like that till I get a replacement cable.. :)

I may be totally wrong here, but I thought the factory setup for a console shift vehicle was that the shifter cable was attached to the column shift linkage and the linkage actually moved the transmission. That way the Park/Neutral switch under the dash would still work.

Anybody else with a console shift car please chime in.

Going under that premise, if the transmission shifter bracket has been modified to accept the cable directly there is a good chance that it is the cause of the cable bind and kinking.

the cable and the linkage attach at the selector shaft on the transmission, and when the cable pushes/pulls the arm, the linkage has a pivot mounted at the frame and acts like a fulcrum to move the lever on the steering column for park/neutral/lock release... I ran into the same problem on the Grand prix and believe it was binding up and the cause of 3 transmission failures by holding the selector between gears... in fustration I took mine off, and is working fine, but don't have rev lights and will start in gear...
