There are still some aggressive options left for 16" wheels, but not in the sweet spot for SCCA competition. In many classes, the treadwear rating for tires is capped at 200. (This includes "Classic American Muscle - Traditional" (CAM-T) which I "compete" in.) In the following link, you'll see that there's nothing in between 340 and 100-and-lower for 255-50-16R tires: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Tire...6&rearWidth=255/&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17 (well you should anyway. That web address makes no sense but I pulled it from the correct page.)

17 inch tires on the other hand have much more competitive options, and if you shop for 245-45-17R you'll get many sub-340s, and at least 4-5 options landing directly on the 200 treadwear cap for autocross competition.

The main reasons I'm sticking with 16s for my next set of tires are that I already have the wheels, and I still wanna improve my skill set when it comes to keeping the car pointed in the right direction once I begin to oversteer or understeer. (A situation my 440 treadwear 15s put me in constantly.) Had this not been the case, I'd throw the baby out with the bath water and sell the wheels with the slicks that are currently on them.

If you ever want to sell your Turbo T wheels, let me know, I will drive to Indiana to buy them, if need be.

The facts of G-Body life...Using Tire Rack for an example, a 26.1" tire on a 16x8 rim points you to five choices:

I agree that the 15" rim options are not much better. Yes, I could go down to F-body 245/50/16 with some speedometer error. Tire Rack offers up to 8 choices in that size. There are 7 choices if I go up to a 255/45-17.
You're right, Quinn.
Even 16" tires are limited in size. As you pointed out, most 16" tires are of a lower profile which equates to, as you also pointed out, speedometer error. 245/50 x 16 are the popular size for those rims. However, the taller tire would be more beneficial for street use.

I'll try to keep that in mind. I am planning on moving my 16s to full-time street use. Just keep in mind they're flat black now, so you'll need some paint remover, some acid wash, and a bit of aluminum polish on the brushed bits before they start looking like this again:

Pardon the distortion. It's a picture of a picture back from like '09. I never bothered to clean them that well again. lol

I'm closing this up. I think we more than 15, so I'll make a call on the last few who makes it and doesn't. Just how it is. Thanks everyone!
