Disconnect the hose at the EGR and plug it then try again. Any improvement? I've replaced a lot of GM EGRs that caused hesitation due to lazy spring inside. The valve works but opens too much, too fast.

I would be looking at what others have suggested expect when it comes the carburetor. The rebuilder told you to adjust the idle mixture and if that did not help to send it back. If you tear into the carburetor and the carburetor ends up being the problem they probably will not warranty it.

that exactly what I did tonight and problem went away. guess I'll be looking for an egr valve!

It's good you came back to tell us that you found the cure. If the carb shop gave you a ticket number when you called them then I would call them back to let them know what the problem was.

so i return to bang around some ideas after making observations. iv been driving a few hundred miles with the egr valve unhooked and hose plugged. under extreme light loads between 33 and 40mph it will buck and stumble like an ignition fault. if i have the egr valve hooked up, it will have a lean serge. what are your thoughts on this?

other thing i was woundering... can i just leave the valve unhooked and tune the carb to suit? iv been having issues with aftermarket valves. neither one i ordered came with the correct orifice washer for my application :/

third thing i was woundering... what would a dwell meter show if i hooked it up and drove the car around? does the MCS do anything above idle? would it show me if this is running lean or rich????

You should use a AC Delco egr valve, not those universal fit ones with an assortment of orifices. Egr valves are tuned for their application by the factory.

The lean stop is the adjustable stop for the lean position for the fuel mixture solenoid.
