Barrett Jackson starts Tuesday with a bunch of low mile GN's coming out of the woodwork:

Lot 182 - 87 GN with 13K miles - Tuesday

Lot 407 - 87 GN with 23K miles - Wednesday

These two GN's are even being sold by the same outfit in Lincoln, NE:

Lot 559 - 87 GN with 7,400 Miles - Wednesday

Lot 1554 - 87 GN with 5,700 miles - Sunday

They even use the same underhood pictures.

Then there are two GNX's:

Lot 1307.1 - 87 GNX #375 - Saturday

Lot 1327 - 87 GNX #003 with 10K miles - Saturday

For considerably less money, you can get a 33K Mile Regal Limited with the T package:

Lot 347 - 87 Regal Limited T with 33K miles - Wednesday

And the only non buick G-body I could find: the Prestone Monte Carlo SS:

Lot 3004 - 87 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe for Charity (TGen foundation) - Thursday

They should all bring good money, with the stock market at record highs and Good Guys letting them all in for 2018. We shall see this week.

I used to restore mopars. It really sucks when you can't justify to your wife buying the parts your car needs to work because it will cost more than the car is worth... and you'd have to part it out in order to get your money back.

'70 Cuda440's weren't ALWAYS $100K. They were $5-7K for nice drivers and $12K max all up fully concourse restored in my recent past. Have you ever tried to do a concourse level restoration on any car for $7K? It just not possible.

Barrett-Jackson didn't make parts to restore a mopar more expensive (It actually made them cheaper and more available), but it DID make it possible to restore a Mopar without being independently wealthy (because you could actually sell it for a profit).

The idiots that pay too much for cars on B-J couldn't restore a car to save their life. That means they aren't interested in the vast amount of $1K to $2K project cars out there OR even better the project cars that somebody has $10K-$20K in that they have to sell for $5K-$7K because B-J people don't want those, either.

More money coming into the hobby is always a good thing. When someone pays $100K for a classic muscle car at B-J, My only hope is to someday line up next to him at a track in my T-Type I have about $12K total in, to show him money can't buy you brains.

In recent years our lawyer has purchased from BJ and had cars restored for him. Normally I'd sh*t all over a guy like that... except that he has a real history of building and racing cars. I respect him for being the exception to the rule, and at his advanced age his place in life affords him the means to play.

I know - because his fees are going up to support his habit. ;)

That Areocoupe is pretty nice, the fact that the engine looks stock at a glance is pretty neat.

UNGN, I kind of see it as a double-edged sword. Yes, more attention toward G-Bodies at auctions like B-J will increase aftermarket support, ultimately making parts cheaper and more available, and will also increase the cars' value. However, it will also increase the number of shops and hobbyists trying to snap them up from barn or field finds, making them harder to find and more expensive. I think it will be quite a while before G-Bodies in general are as sought after as Tri-5s, Chevelles, Mopars, Mustangs, etc. I think the awareness of them among the "rich dummy" crowd is primarily the GN/GNX, MC SS, and 442. Once valuations on those reach nosebleed levels, you may see interest in the more common or less sought-after models increase.

I was surprisingly impressed with what Mecum had this past week, they actually had some good stuff. Still could never swallow that whole being talked into "dropping the reserve to get the bidding going" for it just to hammer at that price. They had some big buck no sales between the Bugatti Chiron, Ferrari Laferrari, and the quartet of AMG Black Edition cars though
