I know its an old topic, but wanted to throw in my 2 cents, problem was the same the dome light stays on.
I never found how to check the light switch for failure so i am guessing its the little orange module.
That little orange module is expensive in the States, but its price becomes ridiculous when you're living in the Netherlands like i do.
As i am not an electronic genius like ZeblodS i had to find a different solution to the problem, and i think i have.

Check the link:

I think this will work, it needs a positive and negative lead and it has a trigger function, the other side is comm and a NC and NO so run a positive lead in Comm en the other lead goes to the NO side and onto the lights.
When i open the door (trigger through ground) and close it again the timer (adjustable) goes on connecting the comm and the NO and thus feed power to the lights, after the timer is done(adjustable) the relay falls off and the lights go out. its not as fancy as the ZeblodS device but it is a simple and cheap solution.
