Diesel trucks generally go for a lot more than gassers, but agreed some of the asking prices are definitely in “crack pipe” territory. Same thing with Jeep Wranglers and Toyota Tacomas.

I don't think you can get a bank to loan money on a 20+ year old truck so that leaves people with that kind of extra cash hanging around and im less than convinced they are buying old used up trucks.

The wranglers and tacos do sell for that kind of money. It's nuts.

The wife drives a Highlander. We lease it and it's the second one we've had. We went back to the dealership and saw the old one we traded in sitting on the lot. 2 years old, 25k miles, and it was $800 cheaper that a new one twenty yards away. Same trim level, engine, everything. It was gone in three days.

As attached as I am to my wagon, if someone were to offer me $100k cash, look...I’m not an idiot. Not saying that would ever happen, but if some rich guy just said “I gotta have it,” hey man...Knock yourself out. But wouldn’t let it go for any less that that, modded or stock.

I wonder the same thing about diesel pickups. Whack jobs have them listed at 30k for a 12 year old, 200k mile rig. They only cost that much when new.
Don't forget the hack work they do to give them more "performance", cutting holes in a perfectly good bed for stack pipes. Atleast here in my rural part of Pa.

Diesel trucks.....I own one, but it's pretty much the way Navistar shipped it to Ford.

I remember driving a pretty new GM farm truck diesel back around 1985, let's just say if they hadn't started putting turbos on diesels, there wouldn't be much of a demand for them today...that thing was just flat out dangerously slow.

I have a 96 Powerstroke. In stock trim/tune it is a turd. You literally can't cold start it and drive away. It has to be warmed up at least a little. Or plugged in for several hours prior to going anywhere. Has a TS 6 position tuner and it helps alot.

It's just G-bodies time in the limelight. They've always been in high demand in my area, plus natural inflation and shrinking supply leads to higher prices. Very similar to the current market for Donks. Nobody outside of Miami really cared about Donks 20 yrs ago, other than the demolition derby guys; now you're hard-pressed to find a nice, complete, rust free Donk for less $10K.
