From what I have seen, nearly all the 350 diesels came with a TH350C. GM should have put a 2004R and something like 3.42 gears with them. They would have still got very good mileage and get out of their own way. Of course there should have been the extra head bolt added like the 4.3 V6 from the get go. I believe the V6 had 5 more hp and the T-50 was gone by 80 or 81. Olds also had a 150 hp 4.3 V6 version with tuned, long intake runners and headers, it never made production.

I imagine 350 DX pistons might work in that 4.3 V6, it is an Olds 350 diesel with two cylinders cut off.

Not the weirdest, but my recent 78 Calais 5 speed purchase seems odd to me. Stripped down with no options including AC delete, but it's got a power antenna. Why? The worst option you can get and now I'm stuck with it.

Not a Cutlass but my 79 Malibu Wagon came factory with the 200 V6 and 3 speed Saginaw. No A/C, basic everything in the interior. Only vents on the dash are the center ones and defrost of course.

My first car (bought in march 1992 from the original owner w/80k miles) was a 1979 Cutlass - Factory Silver/Black two tone paint, black vinyl bucket interior, full gauge cluster, manual windows/locks, non ac, 305 4bbl sbc, saginaw 4 speed, and I believe a 3.23 g80 rear. Funny how everyone in HS picked on me back then for building a "grandmas car".

Some time in the very early 90's, after I had my 81 Calais I started to notice more of the Cutlass's. At a Honda dealership, I saw a Olds Cutlass 442. It was weird because it was GM bright blue with the silver bottom and gold stripes. The interior was grey. Everything to me at that time looked to be a real 442. The center consul showed it had od as well as typical bucket seat rally gauge sport wheel car. If it was fake they did a good job all emblems present wheels, and interior emblems as well.
