I did not know that. Learn something new everyday. But I don't understand why it would.

the thrust bearing keeps the crank from moving back and forth. When you engage the clutch all the force to you use is pushing the flywheel forward which pushes the crank up against the thrust bearing. The heavier the clutch the harder the crank is sitting on the thrust bearing. It's even worse if the car has been sitting a long time and the thrust bearing is dry.

Great information. I will probably go without the NSS and the reverse lights look like a piece of cake.
A friend of a friend gave me a pedal setup with the long bolt. It's installed and working as a prototype but I want to adjust it so the clutch pedal is higher. And I want to re-enforce the end of the bolt. Now that I know where to locate the connection for the master cylinder, I will remove the pedals and go to a buddy's shop where we will weld the reinformcement. I will send pictures.

Good idea on using a shaft mounted slave cylinder...but I already cut the header so I need to replace it.

Note to self: Put projects on GBody BEFORE installing, not after!

You guys are a wealth of information.,,,thanks again

Update.
Drove car for first time yesterday...not bad considering I had it for almost 2 years.
Clutch and transmission worked fine! Stayed on local roads with the open header...it was LOUD
It's in the shop receiving the new Hedman headers, thanks for the information!

When I get her back, I need to do the following:
- Change Dextron transmission fluid again to properly flush i t
- Change rear end fluid, change oil
- Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing
- Add sender for speedometer
- New headlights
- Clean window guides, maybe add relays for the windows to boost voltage
- Add a hidden start switch
- And finally,,,,,, speakers and amp! Plus lots of cleaning!

I think the suspension is the next major upgrade, it felt really soft.

It's going to be a FUN summer!

Sitting here at work depressed....car has been in shop for exhaust since last Thursday.
The place I chose comes highly recommended from 4 reliable sources....some real gear heads.
However, they are struggling!!!

I bought the Hedman Elites 68310 and they fitted the drivers side no problem, around slave cylinder.
They have been struggling with the passengers side. The mechanic wanted to go with a different header style for the passenger side, similar to the one that was there. The thought of having mismatched headers really bothered me so I asked them to locate a mini starter which they did.
I just got the call the mini starter also does not work.

FINE - Put in mis-matched headers! I will fix it myself next winter, I want to start enjoying this car!

Can't wait to see the labor on all of this trial and error! No wonder we turn our own wrenches,,,ugh!

Sorry, had to vent!!!

you'll need a mini starter that you can index. To fit the hedmans from above on the passenger side I had to lift the engine on the passenger side an inch or two and put a small custom "dent" in the tube for clearance on the lower control arm.

My header on the pass side went right in from below and did not have to have a custom dent. I had to use a mini starter and was tight to get in but positioning it just right, it went in from below while the header was in place. Every car is a little different I guess. I don't know if I would take anything to that shop anymore if they can't figure out how to put a header on.

I just want my car back! Serves me right for letting some other man touch my baby!

My friend picked me up in his 87 Mustang 5.0 convertible and I got the bug!

Sorry to hear it worked out this way for you. If they can't get that header in the car then they are the wrong shop. I had trouble with mine on the passenger side as well, as shown in my build thread that I linked in your other thread. Still, it wasn't rocket science to get it to fit. When you go to put it in later, let us know if we can help.
