My G-body (the Regal in my sig) was owned by my parents since new in the mid-eighties. I maintained it for them the entire time and they passed it on to me about ten years
ago. The reason I mention this is because this is how I know the wire harness is mostly original. The only wires that Ive replaced are the battery & alternator cables. Today when I was replacing the starter (old starter was turning engine over slowly), I noticed how minimalistic the two fusible link supply wires were. I want to say that they are like 14/16 gauge or something around that. It amazes me that these two main supply wires are that small considering all of the power accessories this car has. Has anyone else noted the same? Has anyone here replaced said wires all the way back to the fuse block?

Most of the time if the sound system is upgraded the power for the system is coming directly from the battery. The other big draw is the headlights and if they are ungraded there are relays which are powered most often by the battery. If the two red wires and fusible links are changed for something bigger you are defeating the purpose of those fusible which are meant to melt if the overload is substained for a long period of time. A larger wire and fusible link would not protect the system.

If most upgrades (eg: cooling or radio) are wired directly to the battery what is typically used for a terminal block?

it's just about the same since the systems are still turned off and on as they were before the upgrades. My radio still turns on like it did before but the only power that is needed is to turn on the amp and display on the radio.

Let’s say that the ignition +12 V is utilized to control the Relay, how is the high current +12 V connected to the battery?

you can connect it to the B connection on the back of the alternator or to constant power source. Depending on how many connections you need you can always put a distribution box coming from the battery, just remember to put inline fuses.
