I have a really annoying sqeeling that sounds like it coming from the dashboard. I only makes noise while moving and engine rpms don't seem to have a effect but speed does. So best thing I can figure is that its the speedometer cable or speedometer itself which does a steedy jumping move. Anyone ever have the cable make noise? I never heard of this happening before.

The car is a 85 v6 regal limited

First off, you may want to post a proper introduction telling us what you're working on, etc. before making your first post a question.

Secondly, your problem is a common one with G-body cars. The rear pad or rubber cushion supporting the rear of the hood needs a dab of white grease to eliminate the squeak.

gotcha just seems like more of a squeal then a squeek

If you suspect the speedo, try disconnecting it temporarily at the trans. While you have it disconnected, for test purposes, hook up a cordless drill up to the cable and set it on counter clockwise and see what it does.

It sounds like your speedometer cable is in need of lubrication. Pull it off of the speedometer and pour a little bit of oil into the end of the cable while working the center of the cable in and out slightly. This should fix your squeak if the cable is not damaged. If it is, you may have to replace it.

Steady squeal is usually a belt under the hood. Speedo cables usually chirp, but the lube does dry out.
Remove gauge cluster, remove cable, put some grease in a sandwich bag, poke the cable through the corner, and feed it back in. Reinstall gauges.

I put my money on the rubber hood support near the firewall. Put some grease on it and and the noise should be gone

My guess is a speedo. Easy and cheap fix. Remove from under dash. You have to push release and be a bit nimble. Remove inner cable, clean with a solvent, light coat of lube and you should be good to go
