I don't like the sound of this. Just curious. What kind of phone do you have?
Galaxy S8 through Tmobile running Chrome as a browser. I hate Google but it came that way and I never changed it.

I totally understand and have grown to expect these companies to use my locations and search histories for ads and suggestions. My issue is that this has clearly gone beyond that. I'm a bit of a suspicious old man inside and take heat from my wife and daughter because of it. But when I showed it to my wife she was genuinely weirded out by it. My daughter is too young and ignorant to realize the implications.

Go to Settings -> apps -> Click the sprocket in the upper right hand corner -> App permissions -> Microphone

You can manually select which programs can have access to the microphone. I would recommend turning google anything off.

Yup, went through app by app and did that. Was odd to see which ones had mic permission as default and which didn't. I uninstalled and disabled a lot. Unfortunately had to leave location on for some things. I use maps a lot for work travel.

I put "will accept trades" sometimes for the humor of seeing what crap people are willing to get rid of.

Had an offer for 3 empty large propane tanks, like 100 gallon, and a crossbow in trade for my 88 cherokee. Screamed too meth lab to me and I had no use for 300 gallons of empty propane tanks nor a desire to recreate the walking dead.

all of the android based phones will all be the same as far as privacy.

And Apple is the same although most Apple fans will deny it because Apple has not said it is so.

If you have a cell phone, someone is tracking your info. They are watching whatever they can, wherever they can, on whatever they can. Flip phone will still expose your data that runs through it and they are storing it all.

This is the word we live in now.

I miss the days when your phone stayed home and there was no answering machine.

I've noticed ads across my different devices plenty of times, you know when you search for something on your computer and then a little bit later an ad shows up on the browser on your phone for something similar. I've gotten used to that and kind of expect it. There have been a few times when I'd get an ad for something that I never searched for that I sort of remember talking about but it was so infrequent that I just thought I was being paranoid. In your case it sounds like your paranoia is justified.

What's the word for when your paranoia is justified? I mean it's not paranoia anymore if it's real, right?

Thats what the cookies deal with in your browser, and the browsing history. When a website asks you to turn on cookies, or notifies you that it does, that's what it's for. Tracking where you go, what you look at, for how long, etc. Clear your history/cookies/cache, all that goes away.

I knew I shouldn't have downloaded 11.3 with the new "immersive augmented reality experiences".

Got off FB 3 years ago when I suspected the nonsense then that we all know about now.

Since I'm solar powered here now, I'm about ready to go off grid, cover my house with wire mesh, and never come out . . .
