Morning guys

I’m up a bit early today and have an hour to kill before I head over to help on Mike’s ‘57, and know that you haven’t heard or seen much outta me lately.... So, I figured I’d do a quick update and post a couple pics to bring y’all up to speed.

I’ve been continuing to plug away on the back half of the body, all the primer is now 100% blocked out and sanded. Also, the trunk lid is 100% stripped, with only one small repair above the hinge arm on the passenger’s side:

I had to pull it out of the garage to give it a thorough de-dusting and blow out, with the last of the ice and snow finally gone here, I was finally able to do that a couple weeks ago. I told myself I wasn’t gonna post this pic on the thread as the car is currently uglier than a mud fence with all the bodywork going on, but here it is anyways.

This is the first time the car has been outside and seen the light of day since sometime in October:

The real big news is tho, thanks to busting *ss the last few days, the car is ready for round two of primer.
Unfortunately due to previous commitments I won’t be able to get after it until tomorrow morning, but it’s all masked up and ready to go:

The plan for tomorrow morning is to hit the trunk lid and the bare metal break-throughs with epoxy primer, with a full 2 wet coats going on the trunk lid. After it’s 1/2 hour induction period, the entire back half will get another 3 coats of high build. I’ll post up a couple more pics once that’s done and it’s been unmasked tomorrow afternoon. Should look pretty good by that point.

That’s all for now gents.
Till tomorrow...

Well gentlemen, it was a very productive day.

After starting at dawn today and epoxy priming the trunk lid and recoating the rest in another 4 coats of high build, here it is fresh after unmasking:

The primer dried very quickly, so I was able to start doing some assembly soon after. Obviously the car isn’t finished, but this is a pretty significant milestone because this part of it is as finished as it’s going to get for this year. The goal was to get the old girl to the point where I can start driving and enjoying it again this summer.

With that being said, I was able to start assembling some of the components that I could. Trunk popper, trunk lock and inside trunk light went in, flush mount marker lights, taillight bezels and rear window trim and filler panel.
Also got the front windshield trim installed, the stainless exhaust tips tack welded on, and the stock height rear springs swapped for the 2” lowering ones.

Some pics during the assembly process:

And finally, as a reward for all my efforts and hard work these last few days, I took it out this evening when I was done for its first shakedown run of the year and a decent photo op.

Damn it felt great to open her up and bark the tires through the gears again!!!
:)

The primer has to cure for a couple days before I get onto the next stage, but in the meantime there’s still lots of little assembly things that need to be done. Driver’s outer mirror has to go back on, rear bumper needs to be centred a little better and come up a smidge on the driver’s side, and the rear bumper fillers still need to be installed as well.

The next few updates in the following days should prove to be pretty interesting and fun, (we’ll get to that soon enough) but in the meantime whadda y’all think??

So much win. Thank you for allowing me to go to bed before midnight. :p

Hahahaha

Eh, it’s the least I could do! I really did have you in mind when compiling the post. After working on it all day, this was literally the first chance I’ve had to do the update!
