310 HP and 348 lb ft of torque is plenty sufficient for that truck. There are tons of V8 trucks that don't make that much HP and Torque and they do just fine. Sure the 4 cyl probably makes that power high up in the rev range than the V8s, but 1/2 the people buying these trucks are soccer moms anyways.

Personally I think it is pretty cool, and I'm sure Ford and FCA (though FCA usually takes a while to play catch up with the other two) will follow suit.

For soccer moms it should be good.

Peak torque at 1,500 RPM, not bad.

Easy to make torque down low with a turbo.

For the numbers stated that is under optimal conditions in a controlled situation, good luck in the real world. I'm not buying one so I have no skin in the game but good luck to those that do.

Just for the gee-whiz file: I have a work associate that has the first year Ford f-150 Eco-boost that gets worse mileage than most owners of F-250 diesels I know. He drives like a grandma, I've spent plenty of hours in the truck. His isn't much better than another friend's gas F-250.

I think most companies are banking on most people not traveling that far and turning vehicles before the official warranty is up.

Considering 75% of pickup buyers are just buying a tall 4wd suv with a place to haul their bags of leaves so they don't make their carpet dirty, it will be fine.

It probably won't last 300k like a v8 pickup, but the original owners don't care. Once it's returned after 3 years on lease it doesn't matter. I swear 75% of pickups end up never having a hitch slid in the receiver.
At 265 *** miles, my 02 2500 is rusting away faster than I can catch it.

Wraith...Yeah, the EcoBoost has proven to be a big disappointment in terms of fuel economy, whether you’re talking about the V-6s or I-4s. My wife’s Escape 2.0 EB gets nowhere close to its EPA numbers.

That sucks, it seems that it is uncommon for them to NOT rust into the ground. I wonder if the Aluminum Fords will hold up any better, but if I had to bet I'd guess they won't.

The EcoBoost fuel economy is wayyy overrated. They make great HP but the fuel economy is nothing to brag about. My uncle has a 2017 F150 with the 2.7L EB and he tells me the gas mileage is every bit as bad or worse than his old 6.0L 2500 Chevy. A friend of mine has a 2.0L EcoBoost in his Lincoln MKZ and told me it gets 17ish with 50/50 hwy/city driving.

Don’t know how many of you saw this yet, but the 2019 Silverado 1500 is getting a four-cylinder engine option. Sounds crazy, but makes a respectable 310 hp and 348 lb-ft.

that is just a gimmick, Ford tried the same thing but my son didn't fall for it. His 5.0 get better gas mileage than the small turbo, can pull more weight and will easily outlast the small turbo's engine

For my needs, I can't think of anything more useless.

Those turds are gonna destroy hauling capacity/capability too. If you want to put a heavy load in the bed, or substantial tongue weight on a load, you WANT front end weight... otherwise the nose lifts, tires scrub and get cupped in a matter of hundreds of miles, steering gets squirrly.

I'd have to assume this is a nightmare for anyone buying a truck to work as a truck.

I guess for the millenial buyer with their 4 foot bed and "look at me, I got me a truck" it's fine... but it isn't really a truck.
