The last time a ran an automatic trans i believe it was Dexron II maybe III and even then we would mix a little Type F into it.

So what are you guys use in these old transmissions Mercon V?

Th350, Oreillys el cheapo Type F. Never failed me. Shifts nice and firm, although that is mostly attributed to the shift kit.

I use generic Dex/Merc in all my older domestic transmissions. Even my BMW takes Dex/Merc since it has a GM transmission in it.

Type F is more agreessive with friction additives. Dexron was designed to slip more for smoother shifting. However think of these friction additives as having sand in your trans. The make firmer shifts but wear lubricated parts faster. I think today’s clutch material has eliminated the need for type f in a street car. But in a race car sure get all the help you can. I ran type f in my t-400 behind a 980 hp 565 and never smoked it.
