So Im looking at finally getting back into swapping the 307 out for the 5.3 but looking at the factory wiring what do I need to keep? The factory harness is a nightmare.

Well, that's a pretty vague-assed question...... What are you doing for gauges? Are you keeping AC? What constitutes a nighmare (worse than a carbed 5.3 in a Cutlass)? What trans are you going to run?
The basics you need to keep are the 3 heavy gauge wires to the ignition switch (red, pink, and purple) aside from the front lights and horn harness.

I think I found the answers I was looking for but I plan on keeping AC, Heat and running a 2004r in the car. I understand that there are 2 separate harnesses, one for the computer and one for the ignition, tach etc. is that correct?

No, 3 harnesses: ignition and gauges, computer, and lights and horn. 4 if you count cruise control...
I have to ask: why carb an LS?

Thats how I got the motor no intake or ECM.....Ill start off with a carb and probably go with a fitech setup later.

did you already buy the carb intake. if not it will probably be the same price to go with fuel injection and be done with it the first time. truck manifold and wiring harness and pcm are cheap at junkyard.
