So I know that my 83' Monte has an inbuilt power sunroof from ASC that was dealer installed when new and I always heard that there was never an option for the Montes to get a power sunroof/moonroof but there is a guy on FM selling parts from his 87' Monte SS claiming it is factory installed but has no interior shots to send me, it looks more like the one I installed in my Regal. So is there anything verifying that this was not an option or maybe if you knew the right people.

78-80's (pre SS) were available with the power sliding roof but I believe it was a steel panel. The sales brochure from my 88 shows only hardtop or T Top.

Dealer ordering information says NO Monte SS with sunroof from the factory. Like T-tops, you can always make them fit. Sorry. I call bullshit on a factory deal. He's going to have to have more proof to show someone pulled strings. I bet if you pulled the invoice it wouldn't be on there.

Here's the available options for the 87 Monte SS from the dealer ordering information. CC1 is the only roof option. Same for Aerocoupe. Although from what I recall, Aerocoupes were far and few between with T-tops.

I asked for a picture of the RPO code from him in a group he posted this car, no reply. I know it doesn’t have the code for it, but wanted to see how he’d reply. No SS’s could get it, forget which years it was an option on the base Monte’s. Much less common than any of the BOP’s, think it wasn’t offered in the later years for some reason without looking.

It’s fairly common for Aero’s to have t-tops, I’d say maybe 1/4 to a 1/3 have them.

Maybe they all rotted out. Most of the ones I've seen don't have T-tops. Even if 1/3 had them, that would only be what, a few hundred anyway?

6,052 total in 87', so a couple thousand or so give or take probably. The NMCOA or somewhere many years ago had some whacko claim that only 250 87' Aero's were made with t-tops. That has been laughed at by people in the SS community for years who've been around these cars. 2,500 might be believeable. In a quick search using the SS registry on montecarloss.com, a smaller sample but enough to give an idea, 328 87' Aero's are in there and 174 have t-tops. Not sure if it's 50% but I wouldn't be shocked if it's close to that. In my years around these cars that data while small passes the smell test, so when on FB groups someone gets a woody on an Aero with "rare" t-tops, I laugh.

What's rare about T-tops is that if the T-tops aren't caving through the rust... :)

I must've been thinking 1986. I think there were only like 200 Aeros made in 86???...Didn't think they made all that many 87s but I was wrong. Interestingly, they made more 87 Aeros than they did H/Os or 442s in any G-body. I honestly don't keep up with Montes. Too much crap to remember as it is with Oldsmobiles, and I don't even get that right half the time.

If I had kept my 86, might have been a different story, but hey, I didn't even follow the Aerocoupes in 1986. Back then, it was just another new car. I paid attention more to 442s and H/Os back then. The then-wife wanted a black car with gray bucket seats....we went to the Olds dealer first but they wouldn't budge off the price on their black 86 442 with gray interior. But the Chevy dealer was ready to deal on the 1 of about 40 Monte SS's they had in stock. Ok, maybe not that many, but they had one in every color combo I think.

Rot tops as someone I know calls them. I do feel bad for every post I see (also on FB) of those discovering their t-top g-bodies are rotted in the roof with gory pictures. Glad my t-top car came from the dry southwest.

Yep, 200 86' Aero's which are all optioned identically. 87' Aero's seem to fall in line with 87' notchbacks for colors, options, etc.

It's hard to remember all the numbers/facts. I vaguely know other g-bodies but am partial to the Monte stuff. I'm full of all sorts of useless facts and observations.

Speaking of 442's how "rare" is it for a maroon/gray interior combination? They exist in the 85' and 86' SS's but is fairly uncommon, but a cool combo. Someone on FB posted a 442 for sale that sure looked like the original paint/interior and it was that maroon/gray combo, first time I ever noticed that in those, it was an 86'.
