When I think of a 14 bolt, I'm thinking of the full floater. But I believe you're referencing what would have come in an Escalade or Avalanche, correct? I was of the understanding that is not the same carrier as the full floater in 1 ton+ vehicles. I've always referred to them as a GM 9.5", but perhaps I'm wrong on the nomenclature.

Correct. Newer GM pickups & suv's in the gmt900 series got it if they had a higher HP setup. It is a semi float GM 9.5" which is confusing since there is a 10.5" 14 bolt also but that is a full floater. They also came in light duty 2500 and HD1500's in the GMT800 series. The gmt400's got them randomly in 6 lug in the early 90's.

The 9.5 is what I am looking at.

Be specific with year on your axle search. GM went to AAM for some driveline stuff after 2001, they have stupid metric stuff in them. I know this because I was looking to swap ratios and hit the AAM brick wall of aftermarket support.

I love my trutrac actually, but have also heard they don't like rock crawling or drag racing. They are more for road racing. Which tells me they don't like to be shocked.... not sure if that helps or hinders your choice.
I don't think that is an issue with the truetrac which I have as well. The rock crawlers issue is they might not know you have to tap the brakes if you are losing traction in that situation and it will lock up. I thought it was common knowledge. But I'm usually wrong these days. :ROFLMAO: :blam:

What is goofy, the carrier itself? The ring gear bolts? Bearings? I didn't know they changed.

Salvage yard 200 miles away has a bent $200 TBSS rear. I've gotta go there for work in the next week or so. Hmmmm.....

I believe this applies to the 10.5 and 11.5 in the GMT800 and newer. The AAM 10.5 is different than its predecessor.

GMT400 9.5" diff came in 5 lug on the 454SS, 6 lug in the heavy 1500/light 2500, and 8 lug in the 2500. 2wd is narrower than 4wd on the 400.

I had the AAM 11.5 in my ram. That thing is massive. I was over 1200 lb/ft of rw torque. I know guys with double that and had no problems with the 11.5.
It would be total madness to install that on a g body

I’ve researched the 9.5 and the aftermarket is poor. For a truck app it’s fine ( have been looking for one for C20 around 500whp). But you’re well over that.

I have no recommendations that I’ll stand behind, but if I were you, then I’d be looking at a genuine Eaton clutch style posi for your build. There are many people running low 9’s with one. I think you got the double wamboozle ( professional term) on a crappy part and wheel hop.
But this is me, not you.

I’m sticking with the 8.8 and hoping I don’t disintegrate it. only positive is that I look at the disc brakes as axle retainers ;)

Combination of a stick, wheel hop, and a heavy foot did the 8.8 in. I would figure your wheel hop out before you launch the car again...

Could be the 10.5 and 11.5" AAM axles. But I know they made a 9.5 in the early 2000's that was AAM, it might have been front axle, I was building a Blazer with 1 tons at the time.

Rock auto will tell you right away, I believe the ring was some metric bolt pattern.
