    If you are doing the "remove the negative cable to check for a bad alternator" test, it's not a good test. You need a voltmeter to check it correctly. That being said:

    You need to make sure that the alternator is actually putting out, and that the big charge wire is not messed up. With the engine running, check the big post of the alternator and make sure you are putting out 13.8 volts +/-.

    Then if you are, check the battery terminal for 13.8 volts +/- while its running. If those are good, you may have a bad engine ground. Since you remove the ground wire from the battery, which is connected to the engine, but if the ground strap from the engine to the body is faulty, it would cause it.
