I have a 180 in my Monte with a 565 Big Block and in my Regal with a 355 SBC and both are running big Griffen radiators with dual Intrepid fans, no cooling issues at all with either car with the 180 thermostat.
It's been nice here the last two days so I drove my Regal to work both days.

The only difference in bumpers between 84' and 87' would be the rear bumper, along with the tail lights and housings with the front nose and spoiler being the same.

If there is no obvious damage to the frame horns then it is most likely the absorbers, did you measure the stick out past the frame for both absorbers and compare?
