Thanks again Ed for documenting a fun weekend!! :D :D Always a good time hangin with the El Camino Central guys, maybe next year won't be so hot. 8) The next event I have decided to do is Hot Rod Power Tour with the wagon this summer. Tour starts in Charlotte, NC on June 7 and ends in...

    Steering box ?'s....Lee?....AGR?....etc?

Well I have decided to give the Lee box a try....You just can't beat under $150 shipped for a new blueprinted box. I took a better look at the steering shaft over the weekend and think I can make it work by just spreading the coupler opened a bit. Worst case, the end of the Jeep shaft is a 3/4...

    Steering box ?'s....Lee?....AGR?....etc?

Need some help with steering boxes. I have read lots of threads on here about the F41 (ss) and Z boxes. I originally put a used SS boxes on my wagon, but it had lots of play off center though I did feel a nice difference in turning (had a 605 box originally). So I went and bought a rebuilt...

    1983 Malibu T Wagon project

The taillight trim is actually made out of black plastic, but if I were to do it again I would make out of aluminum, cut on a waterjet, and powdercoat to match the wagons other trim. I do still have the template, maybe I will get with a machine shop to see if it makes sense as it looks like...

    1983 Malibu T Wagon project

Well have not gotten around to updating this thread in awhile, but will download some fresh pics to photobucket this weekend and get it updated. The short version is that I got the wagon mostly done (exterior and driveline) to take to Super Chevy in WPB and Ed posted some nice pics and video...

    Astro fuel sender questions.

Rotating the sender allows the fuel lines to exit toward the front of the car like stock, otherwise lines would point to back of car and you would have to reroute fuel lines accordingly. The pump is attached to the fuel tank sender, it has a "shelf" that pump sits in and fuel line holds top...

    S10 Drop Spindles

I just went through this when a buddy's 78 El needed a new spindle. The spindles, brake rotors, and bearings are different on 78 as compared with the 79-87. If using S10 dropped spindles you will need new brake rotors and wheel bearings for 79-87 G-bodies, or in your case to keep SAE wheel...

    1983 Malibu T Wagon project

So I had a few minutes here to update with some more pics..... :D Here is the turbo engine just before putting it in the car the first time (more on that disaster later...) I got the long block from a friend who took it to a supposedly "reputable" machine shop. I painted everything up nice...

    Wagon quarter glass mouldings

Pillars and window frames were painted with SEM bumper black. I have used it on other cars to black out trim etc. and it always holds up to the sun real well. It is a little expensive at $12/can, but I hate doing things over. The rest of the trim on the car was all powder coated in a matching...

    1983 Malibu T Wagon project

Here are a few pics of the wagon not long after it arrived at my shop. At this point all I had done was swap the wheels (tires that came on car were dry and shot) and scrapped paint off back qtr glass and windshield (yes, they actually painted the top edge of the glass black also. :wtf: I...

So I finally found all the old pics of my 83 Malibu wagon that were stuck in my old computer and decided with all the sweet wagon project threads on this site that I should start my own. This will be a bit of a time warp thread as i will backtrack to when I first purchased the wagon in March of...

    Wagon quarter glass mouldings

All right, finally got my quarter glass into the car and managed to get a few pics to show the process. Sorry if a few are a little blurry, forgot my regular camera so I had to take them with my phone but you get the idea. Surprisingly everything went very smooth and the trim clipped on with...
