    Gen/batt light staying on

If you unplugged the connector and the light went out, then your wiring is fine. Your voltage regulator is bad. The regulator runs that wire to ground to light up the bulb on the dash, so that is your culprit.

    My 79 Olds Calais Project

I think fully dressed out the 455 is nearly the same weight as the diesel. You may be lighter with your 455 if you use aluminum intake, heads, etc... When I put my gas 350 into my 1980 diesel Cutlass the front end came up some. It was good though, because the 15" rallye wheels from the 1970's...

    My 79 Olds Calais Project

I prefer the diesel springs. I ran 15's easily with them. You can still buy them new. The 442 and Monte SS springs if new are also high enough.

4.1 v6 to buick 350 build (about time) lol

The closest setup will be using the Grand National setup. Honestly, it's not worth it, but you can always do it later after your car is running right. One headache at a time! :P

    84 Hurst/Olds New Project

I know. I am YEARS behind on every project due to wife and kids, hehehehhe. I am still gathering parts and moving forward, though.

    307 to 403 Olds swap...info please?

I use a beer can, cut it up (after proper consumption of the contents), and use that as a block off gasket and then bolt the EGR valve back on. You can saw off the top of the EGR valve and just use the bottom flange to bolt back on to the intake with the beer can block off gasket. Good luck!

    307 to 403 Olds swap...info please?

Aren't you supposed to run that alternator belt down past the crank pulley too? Just wondering. It is a beautiful setup!

Buick 3.8 to Buick 350-1981 Century Wagon Build

I have ridden in G-bodies with poly bushings; they just feel tighter and better to me. Some people think it feels harsh. I think it feels confident. The rear axle suspension control arms seem to bind up with poly bushings in the turns. The buck, well that's like the car unexpectedly hooks and...

Buick 3.8 to Buick 350-1981 Century Wagon Build

I use poly mounts and bushings everywhere except the rear control arms. I cannot explain it, but it makes my car "buck" sometimes when I hit a curve at speed. For those, I use heavy duty rubber, like the "Del-a-lum" bushings. I have seen other guys use rod ends and eliminate that problem too...

Buick 3.8 to Buick 350-1981 Century Wagon Build

You can buy the poly mounts from TA performance. They are supposed to fit either the V6 or the 350. I am assuming maybe that the mount has the holes elongated where the through bolt goes. They are on my list to purchase but I don't have them yet. TA V1822D I went through a similar ordeal with...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol It will bolt to MOST 2004R, but not all. In the beginning of the run, from 1982-1984, there were many 2004R transmissions that were made that were Buick-Olds-Pontiac (BOP) pattern only. From the beginning in 1982 until 1990, most...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol Vortec is a name used for GM corporate piston engines. As it refers to the Gen 1 small block, there is only Vortec 5000 (305) and 5700 (350) The 4800, 5300, 6000, and 6200 are all LS-series engines...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol The Gen 1 Vortec small block only came in two sizes, 305 and 350, or 5.0 and 5.7 Liters. The 5.3 is an LS engine. All of the rotating assembly is 100% interchangeable with the 87-up roller cam small blocks. You can also just use the...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol I think what you have added is, in fact, quite relevant to the discussion at hand. Your statements about the machining are exactly the point I was making. I mostly have done Buick/Olds engines, and the Pontiac stuff I have helped...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol I buy almost 100% used parts, OEM, for my builds. As far as the Olds "guru" that you had do the machine work, unfortunately it seems that he was more into making money than to helping you out. I said "seems" because I am not there...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol There are a few things that need to be addressed here. First off, who did your machine work? How is it even possible that having one engine block machined could be less than another? Its the same labor and machinery to bore...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol My problem with the older chevy blocks, particularly pre 1986, is that the machining was not done well at the factory and the cores are not as stable (not cast as well) as the newer blocks. If I didn't start with a complete Vortec...

Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol The vortec L31 is the best FACTORY long block to start with. Naturally aspirated you can hit 450 HP with the stock block and heads. The blocks are an excellent casting and the cranks are pretty good too. You'll need to check the...
