Aluminum dissipates heat far more efficiently than copper. I use a Champion 2 row for my 350 hp sbc in my 80 Cutlass with a single 16" electric fan. Stays cool as a cucumber. During summer nights cruising it often drops down to just over the thermostat temp. Fan set at 195* on 185* off never...
What do you know about this engine? The reason I ask is it has aftermarket pushrods which leads me to believe it's had some head and or cam work. Olds valve train is non-adjustable and improper head work can lead to lifter preload issues like you have. Also broken or worn rocker bridges, worn...
The issue has to be with the springs or spindles. I've never heard of control arms built to lower our cars. The difference in spindles should be easy to spot. So my best guess is the springs are the problem.
And "stock" tire size would be more along the lines of 185/70-14, or roughly 24 1/4"...
I would rather go with stick on weights. Dyna beads though do work well but are intended for tires that are very heavy by themselves. Because of that they require a lot of lead for balance, making clamp on weights impractical.
For my cutlass with a sbc, no ac I used QA1 front coilovers, single adjustable with 450# springs. They give a 2" drop and a really good ride. They are rebuildable and re-valveable as well. QA1 have a line of circle track shocks as well so authorized service shops should be pretty easy to locate...
Cash for clunkers was a major gbody killer in my area. At that time there were still a few dozen gbody daily drivers on the road that ended up in dealer storage lots. Meanwhile salvage yards saw a decline in demand for them leading to reduce inventories.
My car has a 300 HP crate motor and even with the torque converter from the original 3.8 engine, TH350 trans and 2.73 gears it is far from sluggish. It really wakes up after 3600 though. Now if I let the trans shift automatically (which I don't) I shifts too soon and could be considered...
You can replace just the part that is rusted out. The floor brace looks good and shouldn't need removed at all. that front inboard seat mount needs replaced and they can be bought new or used, the front outboard mount looks savable.
Smog pump refers to the A.I.R(Air Injection Reactor) pump. Do you have small steel tubes going into your exhaust manifolds that also go to a belt driven pump on the front of the engine? If so that is the A.I.R system. Not all cars had them.
The catalytic converter has a large impact on tail...
Your HC level could be due to crank case gases caused by blow by. Blow by for the most part will not be seen as smoke from the tailpipe. The stock lean burn condition these engines were tuned to was perfect for burning oil without smoke, to an extent. Also the rest of the emissions system has to...
As Pontiacgp said flex lines can break down and and expand under pressure which will reduce the force exerted on the piston.
And just for reference these cars, after I think it was 1984, use a quick take up master cylinder. This system retracts the front pads all the way off of the rotor. The...
If it's as clean underneath as it looks on the outside and it's THE car you want and you can cover the price then go for it. I think the price is a little too high myself but I also paid a little more for my original V6 Cutlass than I thought it was worth. In my case I knew that there were very...
Yesterday my son and I drove the Cutlass over to Summit Racing Equipement and picked up a QA1 front coil-over kit for the Cutlass. Part # GS401-10450C. Single adjustable shocks with poly cross bar bushings and 450# springs. Today I installed them as well as some new sway bar end links..
Easy...
