    GBOTM: March '14 Entries Thread

How about a cartruck? Iron head 383, built 2004R, 7.5" with 4.10s (8.5 going in this summer), full power, AC, Dakota Digital instruments, UMI front suspension coming soon. I've had the car for 10 years and its been six states so far and gets driven as much as it can in the summer! Thanks!!

    1985 Chevy El Camino

Welcome to the forum, Chris. Sorry to hear about your grandpa, but on the bright side you have an excellent piece to remember him by. Take a look around, lotta nice folks on here, and upload some pictures when you've got a minute!!

    MINI WAGON RE DO

I certainly remember seeing this car and seeing/smelling the gas.

    7.5 or 7.65 3.42s or 3.73s? in 1985 SS monte

I've seen the ring gear stamped with the size.. I pulled a 3.42 7.625 out of an S10 Blazer and it was stamped "GM 7.625 3.42" or the like.

85 cutlass 7.5 rear end question

Looks to me as though he was holdin' in place burnin' rubber as he said. The marks and small piles of rubber dust suggest the car was stationary. As for the on again off again posi, I vote that its worn out as well.

    Wheel Fitment Guide

I get my lugnuts at local tire shops, Discount Tire for one. They're usually just over $1.00 each.

    I might be crazy

Where did you get (and why do you have) a 1200rpm converter? Isn't that stock? For $90 you can get an 1800-2200 converter (assuming a TH350) from Summit. I ran one of these behind my 383 until I saw the light that I needed more stall speed. You don't wanna be that guy that has to pull the car...

    Backspacing and Offset

Instead of worrying about offset, can't we just look at the BS and width? Won't that effectively take care of the offset woes as well? I fit wheels and tires based on backspacing, casue thats where the wheel actually sits on the car.

    Wheel hop

My 383/200 4R/4.10 El Camino has no wheel hop now with totally stock control arms, busings and sway bar and Lakewood Anti-Hop bars from Summit. I'm a believer.

    new..

Very nice dude!! This is my Cutlass, found it cheap, drove it for a year and made good money off it. Still miss it; great car! Welcome aboard and best of luck!

    2" DROP SPINDLES

I've used BellTech spindles in several S10s (same PN for G body) and in an '85 Cutlass. The Olds had stock springs, cut 1/2 coil. I got the car aligned, and it drove like a dream. I'm definately going to use them again on my next G body or S10.

    transmission Question

I have the super-awesome  250-C in my '83 Malibu wagon, and also got one in my '84 El Camino. If you slide under the car on the passenger side, look up up above the modulator and you should see what looks like a threaded stud stocking out the the transmission. This is the adjustment...

    TRACTION NEEDED

Whats up Tim! I've got an '84 Camino, 383, 200 4R, 3,000 converter and 4.10s. I've got AC, PW, PL, iron headed small block and no fiberglass on the car. I've got an IROC sway bar up front with poly bushings and a stock rear sway bar and ho-hum shocks. I moved the battery to the rear of the...

Tire sizes for corvette rally wheels

It does look pretty good, yes. I feel like this also looks good though. Its clearly all a matter of personal preference. :) 205/60 and 275/60. Looks like the wheels came out really nice! I hope you post some pics when they're on the car.

    rear lift bars?

They look a lot like glorified control arms to me. I got Lakewood's lift-bars. I'm using the stock control arms and get no wheel hop at all. Mine were $150 new a few years ago. I'd personally pass on these bars you've found here.

How much can you drop a G body?

Hey! I cut one coil (2") outta the coils in my iron-head 383 Camino, love it. I had an '85 Cutlass V6 with spindles and 1/2 coil cut. It was damn low but drove like a dream; my only complaint was that the tires were always hitting the wheel wells.

    My rear surprised me......(lol)

My open rear 3.8L Cutlass did the same thing in the snow.

Tire sizes for corvette rally wheels

Looks like you're past the taking suggestion stage, but I'd vote getting sevens for the front. I'm not a fan of rear wheels in the front. I've got a pair of sevens I'll trade ya!!

    monte carlo ss speedometer swap

I'm guessing you have a big clock on the right? You'll obviously need to run a wire to the 'TACH' terminal on the distributor cap. I wouldn't imagine that GM prescribed different sending units for the SS cars, but it wouldn't hurt to pick up a water temp and oil pressure sender from the parts...

    Non-tilt, floor shift steering column

Hey guys, I ran across a hen's tooth in the junkyard today. Found a maroon, non-tilt column in a late '70's/early 80's Monte (think the Training Day Monte). The floor shifter was gone, but the column is there and intact; steering wheel, high-beam module thing, plugs, ignition and key (no...
