What did you do to your G-Body today? [2019]

Got a big yellow box, bought some new hardware, Took out some bolts and shed some spare weight, and got rained on... try again tomorrow. Despite all six bolts that hold the bumper shocks to the frame being removed, the rear bumper is still holding on. Time to research. Curious if those...

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Got the missing pulley fixed and everything back together. Cranked it over, no vroom. Knocked on the gas tank, sounds empty even though the gauge says full. Problem for another day. Put maybe 3/4 gallon of gas in the tank and some in the carb. Sputtered, finally fired and got fuel in the...

They're called rust catchers for a reason.

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Got new alternator installed, fought with the power steering pump pulley, but finally decided to tap it and got it installed. it started drizzling so i bolted on the fan, went to toss in the radiator shroud and radiator then noticed.... dammit. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Made some progress on the 85 Cutlass. Water pump is back in, power steering bracket is on, AC condenser removed since the lines were cut off.... Forgot to nab the pulley puller/install tool or buy bolts for the pulley/fan. Guess that will be tomorrow. Besides, was getting thirsty.

    Poll: Sbc short block 68-80

it's got no cracks, but i think the 283 is out. Need to measure the bore, but 4" is greater then 3.875" of the 283. Meh, for that I'll just have to tear down and rebuild the one in pops back yard.

    Poll: Sbc short block 68-80

As title says, it's a block, short block. Has a few pistons missing, no heads, no pan, not much of anything. It's only a two bolt, but it was cheap. Now what do with it? I do have a set of 305 vortex heads that need a rebuild..... Poll open for 2 weeks.

    Headlight upgrade

I've got the Silverstars, much better then stock, but my aiming is off, as is the whole front end. There's many options out there, even full on LED 4x6 for "freight-liner" trucks. One thing I will not on the LED ones I looked at, wiring may need to be adjusted.

What do you do for a living?

Don't recall if I posted when this started, but since dropping off the forums I've gone from selling parts to selling apples. And back to selling parts again.

    EL CAMINO Hypothetical 305 rebuild

all you need is air, fuel and spark, and a good knowledge to tune it. If you're not required to meet emissions in the state you register it in, build it big, and build it simple. I'm not against LS swaps or keeping emissions, but all the extra sensors... more of a headache then needed, my...

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Tossed a battery in the 85 Cutlass, cranked it over for a bit, checked the windows. Drivers rolls up and down, nada on passenger side. Power locks work! Did not fire it up, never got gas into the filter up front, but that's ok, alternator wasn't spinning. Ordered one and went ahead with...

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

isn't it always Cutlass Season? Didn't do much, cleaned the mouse nest out of the air cleaner, hope they didn't migrate into the exhaust manifold and further. Or up the tail pipe. Find out tomorrow when i put a battery in it and see what sparks fly and bones crunch. and what flies...

    The daily driver

The blue stands out, but not a bad thing. And is that a relay for an electric fan? Extra horsepower gained, but my control unit died within 6 months, so keep an eye on it if it was a cheap one. And after flemming442 pointed it out, yeah... AC hoses. But at least they're not cut, so you could...

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Drove the '82 to and from work as usual and finally brought home the '85. Ok, brought it to work. Hope the boss doesn't mind. Tomorrow, check wires, toss a battery in it, clean out the mouse condo and see if it will fire up. Then it's swap out the water pump and decide where to go from...

Rockatansky's Bold, Brash and Blocky 1978 Malibu Build

Glad to see you back Matt! I too suffer from that dreaded hesitation, but my builder (me with info gathered from various sources, mostly Pops) is considering swapping out the jets in my edelbrock carb to lean it out a little. That and put a kickdown cable on the transmission. But those are...

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

how the hell did you warp your flexplate? I only did an oil change and bought new plugs, I'll install them eventually. Few days back I swapped out the old air shocks for some new Monroe shocks "for towing and hauling" and replaced the rear coil springs and insulators while I was there. I...

To the Big 3 (help me format and fix blah before sending this off)

I didn't think my one rant would gather 4 pages of comments. But you guys are right. I don't think the makers could make what I want due to regulations, though I feel half the regulations (not actual number, just saying) are completely worthless. Yes, some of the new tech is required (damn...

To the Big 3 (help me format and fix blah before sending this off)

we actually sell a Bosch version of that at the store i work at, for about $100. always good to know what's going on with your car, just wish they either tell you more (which means more sensors....) instead of vague it might be this or give you full disclosure. Check this system, check this...

To the Big 3 (help me format and fix blah before sending this off)

any and all criticism is welcome, as well as grammar nazis and people who hold similar beliefs and want to mass spam the automotive industry with the idea for a practical car. I don't like where the industry is headed. There should be an alternative to the "it drives itself" car. And what's...
