I think for around 20 bucks you could get a mechanical gauge from autozone for a engine with only 6k on it be a pretty critical gauge to have.even if oil pressure is not the cause should prolly still have that.

Do you have oil pressure?ive heard of brand new pumps being junk if not getting oil up there the lifters won't be able to pump up thus causing tick?

You can do the rockers with the body off the car I would just brace it like in the picture before I cut anything out to keep it straight maybe take a level and get the body sitting level too before doing any cutting.

Don't have to be steel I've done it with wood just cut the wood to where ya can slide it in and it fits tight but this will keep the body from tweeting when the support from the rocker and floor are out so everything lines up like the day it rolled off the line!

If ya end up finding issues in the rockers when ya dig in also a good idea to to put a 2*4 between the door pillars start taking to much metal off at one time could loose the integrity of the body and once it's all done realize nothing bolts up right or aligns anymore just my 2 cents!

How about lower quarter panels will the two door fit the 4 door?

I second the vacuum line would also check all the rubber for cracks or dry rot.

I just made mine out of aluminum mounted gauges in it and all my switches for my fuel pump water pump etc... took some double sided tape to hold it in took about 20 minutes and a 12 dollar aluminum sheet I got at my local ace hardware
