It seems to me that no matter if the part with the teeth is in the housing or not the cable inside the black sleeve is the same length either way right?
Could there be an issue with the transmission? Could there be a problem with the part in the transmission that the TV cable pulls? I dont know...
So I have done that - put the piece with the teeth back into the housing by pressing the button. When the piece with the teeth is in the housing I cant pull the throttle wide open. When it sits as seen in the pics I can pull the throttle wide open. As seen in the pics it works as you all...
Put a new Holley bracket on the carb to hold the TV and gas cable. Took it for a drive and tried to adjust the new TV cable - shifts hard and on the freeway it doesnt want to shift into overdrive... I have never adjusted a TV cable so I most likely didnt do it right... Any suggestions anyone can...

So the cable that connects to the carb from the transmission appears to be not working. How hard would it be to replace this cable? It doesnt pull, seems to be stuck... Not sure what to do here. Been watching a few videos. Any help would be appreciated.
I found a number on the engine - 10243880 - this number was on the back of the engine on the passenger side. On the driver side I was able to take this pic -
