Until now, I've had my stock 1 wheel wonder with 3:08 gears. All behind a built olds 350 R & a hard hitting transmission. 18 years and no rearend issues. Yup, yellow where the teeth contacted. Also yup, new gears. 373's. New everything other than the housing.

I had painted a few teeth before the teeth in the pic. In the pic,the yellow, is where the teeth meshed. I had totally cleaned 5 or so teeth to see exactly where contact was made. Too much $ to just throw it together and hope for the best. Gotta be done right

Update: well guys, I solved the issue a week ago. Haven' had the time update. My inner pinion race wasn't fully seated. Whether it inched out during the several assembling/ disassembled I don't know. Very well could a been a dumba $$ attack... all makes since now. Like i said, pattern shows all...

I used the old stock bearings honed out to a "less" pressed on bearing, inner and outer, and new bearings. I have a puller. Just IN case a difference in the bearings. I heard the depth tool is nothing but a waste of $. In my eyes. The pattern says it all. I tried original stock shims, new shims...

It' all coming back apart guys. Don' want to but it needs to be done the right way. I' not satisfied with pattern, and over $600 invested. Looks like just the top of the pinion teeth are touching ring gear. I will update. Thanks for the advise. Heck, I could a had a few Engines built in this...

Also forgot to mention, during all assemassembly and disassembled the crush sleeve was never used. Pattern looks the same with or without the sleeve. Pattern in pics is with sleeve installed

After much thinking I forgot to mention this. During the several times of assembling the rearend to check pinion depth the results as followed. I first used the stock .032" pinion shim. Read it should be close. Set preload, checked pattern, it was darn near hitting the root. Next I tried .022"...

I set up without the crush sleeve during inspections. I tried setting preload to summit spec, 25in lbs. I could not turn the yoke. Drag was severe. Did research, found for a Gm 7.5 preload 12-15 In lbs. Turned great, had some drag as it should. Thanks for all of your input. Looks like it' all...

Yes, I did get a install kit. Shims and all bearings. I did make up dummy bearings. If I shim the pinion, my contact is more toward the root f the tooth. Yes, a little excessive but that' from several adjustments. Assembled and disassembled several times. Original pinion shim. 032"

No tag on cover. Not bad of a deal. I've traveled out of state a couple times to get different items. I knew what I was getting though. I just wasn't sure if this rearend was a posi since the other wheel didn' spin forward with the other. But it didn' spin opposite like a 1 wheel wonder.
